Live mixing

Pop-up Channels supports mixing live and VOD content in scheduled channels.

Requirements​

  • Your JWX account must have the Broadcast Live SaaS entitlement
  • Your Pop-up Channels account must have the live mixing entitlement
  • Pop-up Channel must be a scheduled channel
  • The live mixing option must be enabled on the Pop-up Channel
  • Live sources must:
    • use JWX Broadcast Live SaaS
    • use the "Pop-up Channels" stream config (if you do not see this option, please reach out to your JWX representative to have it added to your property)
    • have a DVR window set (not "no DVR")
    • if it is an event, have a stream_warmup time of at least 10 minutes
    • be at least 10 minutes long
  • You must ensure that your live stream has started before its scheduled start time. If your event has not started by that time, it will not play on the channel and you will instead see your filler slate
  • VOD content used in a live mixing channel should match the frame rate, resolution and aspect ratio of your live content to ensure smooth playback across devices

Limitations​

  • Captions are not supported for channels that use live mixing
  • Live mixing is not supported for looping playlist channels
  • Live mixing is not supported for DRM channels

Usage​

Creating a live event​

  1. In the JWX Dashboard, navigate to the Broadcast Live page
  2. Click Create live stream, the Create a live stream panel appears
  3. Under Stream config, select "Pop-up Channels" (if you do not see this option, please reach out to your JWX representative to have it added to your property)
  4. Under Advanced settings > DVR window, select a DVR window length (not "No DVR")
  5. Set the remaining options to your needs as described in the Broadcast Live documentation

Scheduling a live event on a channel​

To enable live mixing on a channel, enable the "live mixing" option while creating a scheduled channel. You cannot change this option after channel creation.

This will enable the "live events" and "24/7 streams" tabs in the scheduling view, which will show a list of the Broadcast Live streams on your JWX property.

To schedule a live event to play on the channel, click the + button next to the live event. The event will now show in the schedule at the start time of the live event. To adjust the start and end offset, click the event in the schedule and click "Edit". You can then modify the start and end offsets in seconds.

Scheduling a 24/7 stream on a channel​

24/7 streams are always-on Broadcast Live streams that run continuously, as opposed to live events which have a defined start and end time.

To schedule a 24/7 stream to play on the channel, drag it from the "24/7 streams" tab into the schedule. You can then use the handles to set the start and end time, or click the item and click "Edit" to set precise start and end times. The scheduled block must be at least 10 minutes long.
